DESIGN PROCESS: CHILDREN OF THE VOID

BACKGROUND

The Children of The Void are highly evolved, inter dimensional beings that originate from the farthest depths of the universe. Where the devils of hell and the angels of heaven represent the idea of an afterlife, THE VOID symbolise the embody the on existence of an afterlife and nothingness after death. This concept sets them up to be the main vilian of the story of Underworld. These entities share nihilistic ideals of life being meaningless as in the grand scheme of things, everything will eventually die and the universe will return to a void of non existence. The Void think of themselves as a higher power and manifestation of the eternal nothingness after death, so they seek to exterminate all life and eventually including themselves.

DESIGN CHOICES/INSPIRATION

DESIGN: I’m taking a lot of inspiration from insects, particularly beetles and combining some of these shapes with religious inspired headpieces. I also had a great idea of making each of these beings have a different beetle pattern on their chest.

Finally finished the official designs for ‘The Children of The Void’. I originally wanted for there to be just three however, I decided on four as it’ll help draw parallels between them and the four horseman of the apocalypse. It’s been super fun experimenting more with my artwork and letting certain aspects be more loose. It’s something that I’ll definitely continue doing! Where the devils of underworld and the angels of heaven represent the idea of an afterlife, THE VOID are a stark contrast as they are the embodiment of eternal nothingness after death (no afterlife at all). These entities share nihilistic ideals of conscious existence being meaningless as in the grand scheme of things, everything returns to a void of non-existence. The Void think of themselves as a higher power and manifestation of eternal nothingness after death, and so they seek to bring all life down into a void of non-existence.
